Minutes for the Meeting of January 6th. , 2010

The meeting was called to order after 7:00 by President John Nedoba.

The minutes from the December meeting were read.

Roll call was taken. There were 10 members present. There were no guests.

The Treasurer was not here to read his report.  John reported that we have paid last years lease.   A few more members paid their $75 dues for 2010.  John reported that we have a balance of $787.18 which includes those that paid tonight.

OLD BUSINESS:

A few members reported that they were not getting current emails, so John said he would validate the email addresses.  If any other members are not receiving emails, please send your current email address(s) to John so that he can update his address book.

John sent out an email to all asking for feedback on membership plans for 2010.  He has only received 13 replies so far.  If anyone hasn’t replied, please send John an email stating your intent for 2010.  We need new members, so if you know of anyone who would like to join, let John know that as well.  The more members we have, the cheaper it will be for each.

NEW BUSINESS:

We need to get some volunteers to help mow, dump trash, and other field maintenance items.  One of the items that came up in discussion was that we needed some sort of a posted schedule so that people who volunteer do not drive all the way to the field to do their work, only to find that someone else did it.   Dick has made up a sign up sheet and passed it to the members present to sign up for when they would like to mow the grass and other such maintenance items.  We will post the list on the building this spring.  Anyone else who would like to volunteer, please contact Dick Klass so he can add you to the list.  We will bring the list to the February meeting and you can sign up then.

Charles wanted everyone to know that they fly helicopters in the Bridgman Elementary school almost every Saturday.  Please contact Charles for more information.  He also told us that there is indoor flying at Clay High School in South Bend every other Saturday.

Charles brought one of his Instructional DVD’s in and we watched the section on soldering.  The demonstration was centered around soldering connection plugs to battery packs, ESC’s and to the electric motors.  He also made a nice presentation of some battery pack terminology and configurations, and showed some different chargers and how to properly charge the battery packs.  He also showed the method for using the “Blinky” which is an Astroflight accessory for balancing battery packs.  The presenter in this video did an excellent job.  Following the video we had a small discussion of some salient points in the video.  It was decided that John would make a presentation in next months meeting on soldering other items together, such as clevis/control rods, dissimilar materials, sheet stock, etc. and that we would bring in some materials and do some hands on soldering.  Larry said he had some small diameter heat shrink and he would bring in some to give to members present.
