Whirlwinds of Southwest Michigan

Minutes for the Meeting of January 7th 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:09 by President John Neboda.

The minutes from the December meeting were read.

Roll call was taken with 12 members present and one guest.

The Treasurer was not present for meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

The floor was opened for discussion of old business.  The topic of “suspending” the points award system were discussed and we voted to suspend for the 2009 season due to lack of funds.

A discussion about possibility of having a table at the spring mall show was initiated.  Costs will be around $200 based on previous attended shows.  Date of show is not known at this time.   Everyone was in favor of having some kind of display to try to attract new members and to promote the hobby.  We need to find out who to contact to find out exact information for date and time and costs.   Steve Metzer stated that he used to receive a letter so he will watch for one.  Anyone who finds out any information should contact either John or Steve and forward their information.

Steve Metzer identified the past “Geezer” photo as that of Mike Klintworth.  He currently lives in Florida.  Steve forwarded the picture to him.  A new photograph to identify has been added to the website.

NEW BUSINESS:

Ed Mosher asked about the possibility of us creating a training session for just after Christmas to teach young people that may have received indoor flyers and helicopters for Christmas how to properly maintain and fly.

MODEL OF THE MONTH:

Mike Gashian brought in a fuselage in process and some other samples of a project that he and Brenner are working on.  They have put together cad drawings for a plane and Mike has machined the parts on his mill.  Mike gave a very nice presentation of how they developed this process.  (See pictures on website under Projects page)  We hope that Mike will keep us updated on the process of this project and look forward to see it flying this summer.
