Minutes for the Meeting of February 4th 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 by President John Neboda.

The minutes from the January meeting were read.

Roll call was taken with 16 members present and one guest.

The Treasurer’s report was read.  We have $574.23 in our account.

OLD BUSINESS:

The floor was opened for discussion of old business.

A discussion about  having a table at the spring Community Awareness  Show at the Orchards Mall  on March 7th was initiated.  Costs will be around $20 per table based on previous attended shows.   Everyone was in favor of having some kind of display to try to attract new members and to promote the hobby.  John Neboda is going to contact the organizers and reserve a spot with 3 tables.   A handful of members have volunteered to man the booth and bring in some planes to display.  Ken volunteered to bring his laptop and set up the trainer.  Dick Klass will print up some “coupons” to hand out to potential new members at the show that will offer a special $10 one year membership to the club.  One of the tables should also have a sign in sheet for people to give us their email addresses so that we can include them for mailings.  Ken suggested that we bring some old airplane magazines in to give away at the show.

Possibilities of other events such as Venetian Festival, car shows, art shows, etc. were discussed.  We also discussed the possibilities of having an Open House the last Sunday of every month to try to interest potential newcomers to the sport.  We should also try to find a way to get former members re-interested in flying and becoming active members of the club.

No one was able to positively identify the “Geezer” photo.  A new photograph to identify has been added to the website.

NEW BUSINESS:

We discussed the current costs for running the club so that we could try to establish a budget .  In addition to the $1000 for field rental, we have Best Disposal portable toilet at $85 per month, and last year it cost about $500 for field mowing.   In all, we are looking at approximately 2000 dollars budget for the upcoming year.

Anyone wanting to fly indoors this winter should look at the “Indoor Flying” link on our website for information on flying at Clay High School in South Bend .

It was reported that Hobbyland of South Bend has gone out of business, although their mail order business will remain.

John announced that he intends for the club to obtain the AMA Gold Leadership award for the club this year.

No one brought in a model of the month.
